The countdown is on!

Sorry it has taken me a while to get back on here and post!  We are a little over a month from our wedding and I have a lot to report back.

It’s amazing how different planning a destination wedding is than planning one here in NYC.  We are still in negotiations to this day with our vendors to figure out who we are using! This doesn’t always have to be the case, but we also explored all of our options, rather than just going off the preferred vendor list from Ren Island.  I have to say, if it wasn’t for my fiancé, thing would definitely slip through the cracks.  We have spreadsheet to monitor ever dollar in and out and the costs down to the penny, which is great when you are planning multiple days of events (remember we have 4 of them being coordinated!).  You MUST be diligent and follow up, follow up, follow up.  There will always be a level of frustration when you don’t get the answer right away like you expect.  We are New Yorkers and want everything 10 minutes ago, so you have to remember they are on island time. Email will be your best friend!  I have to say though, that response time is a lot quicker than what I have heard about other destination island weddings though!

So as it stands right now, we are deciding for an additional cost, if we are going to pick up our guests from the airport.  We think it would just add a nice touch and the cost isn’t overwhelming.  People are spending a lot of money to join us so we felt this would be a nice welcome for everyone.

In the next week, I will give some great tips and some other experiences.  I promise you that everyone will have a different experience, but this website will be as valuable as a resource!

This weekend is my bachelorette party so hopefully next week when I can see clear again, I will give an update on details!

Enjoy your weekend!

  • Thanks so much for the great post! I can’t believe its only a month away! Have you looked into Bully Taxi for transportation? He might be helpful if you have smaller groups of people arriving at different times. At the time of our wedding we had him pick up about 20 of our guests from one particular flight. He has mini vans that can take up to 5 people at a time – they have more room for luggage than cars. His cabs were waiting with signs with people’s names. My problem is I decided to ’surprise’ my guests with the pick-up and didn’t do a good enough job getting the word out. At the time of our pick-up there was a taxi strike! Maybe it was a ‘demonstration’ instead of a strike – not a huge deal, but it managed to wreak havoc for an hour or two at the airport. Still, despite the chaos and my not informing enough of my guests about the pick-up, he managed to get everyone to the hotel in good time! I’ll look for and post his card in case anyone is interested…

  • We haven’t we are actually using Jackie, who is doing all of our airport pick ups as well as transportation to the other two days of events. She worked with us on price since we were doing to much business with her. Chela had recommended her and she too, has air conditioned buses. :)
